Releasing on Steam for PC in April, 2019
Hocus Potions is a social simulation game where you play as a young witch just starting to learn her craft. Gather ingredients and seeds, tend your garden, and experiment with your cauldron to discover powerful potions! It’s up to you whether you want to use your powers to help the local townsfolk, or use them as your personal guinea pigs to achieve your goals!
This project began in August of 2018, and is my own original idea.
Team size: 4 full-time members, 5 part-time members
My roles: Designer, Producer, Artist, Writing
Platform: PC, built in Unity
The main gameloop is centered around gathering and growing ingredients, brewing those ingredients into potions, and completing quests for NPCs by figuring out what potions would best solve their problems. The player can also use potions on themselves to improve their efficiency, restore mana, or just for fun!
Gathering herbs and ingredients that spawn regularly in the overworld
Growing ingredients in a garden
Brewing potions (8 potions currently implemented - healing, mana, invisibility, speed, transformation, poison, and useless)
NPC quests - characters from a nearby town will visit your hut with a problem - it’s up to you to decide which potion will best solve it!
NPC relationships - Pleasing characters by helping them will unlock unique dialogue and let you learn more about them and their relationships… and regularly messing with their lives causes some unexpected results!
Drinking potions - Use your brewed potions on yourself to improve your productivity! Speed potions help you garden and gather faster, mana potions let you cast more spells, and a transformation potion turns you into a cat so you can see in the dark
Sleep through the night with our cutting-edge bed technology. Look, it has moons on it
Speaking of moons, keep an eye on the clock! The moon holds great significance in this world, and will effect the goings-on of the world.
